Visiting the dentist requires a very particular set of English skills. A patient must understand how to respond to a dentists questions and communicate concerns about their teeth. Make sure that you understand the terminology used and expectations of the patient. Sam: Hello, Doctor. Dr. Peterson: Good morning, Sam. How are you doing today? Sam: Im OK. Ive been having some gum pain recently. Dr. Peterson: Well, well take a look. Please recline and open your mouth...thats good. Sam: (after being examined) How does it look? Dr. Peterson: Well, there is some inflammation of the gums. I think we should also do a new set of X-rays. Sam: Why do you say that? Is something wrong? Dr. Peterson: No, no, its just standard procedure every year. It looks like you may have a few cavities as well. Sam: Thats not good news. Dr. Peterson: There are just two and they look superficial. Sam: I hope so. Dr. Peterson: We need to take X-rays to identify tooth other decay and make sure that there isnt any between the teeth. Sam: I see. Dr. Peterson: Here, put on this protective apron. Sam: Okay. Dr. Peterson: (after taking X-rays) Things look good. I dont see any evidence of further decay. Sam: Thats great! Dr. Peterson: Yes, Ill just get these two fillings drilled and taken care of and then well get your teeth cleaned. Overpopulation and the Carrying Capacity of the Earth As humans start a new millennium, we have close to 4 billion more than we had at the beginning of the last millennium. In the next 50 years we are looking at adding another 3 billion people. Such a rapid increase has placed great strains on the Earth and leads us to ask – how many people can the earth support? The answer is rather obscure, however it seems like we are approaching our limit rather soon. With decreasing aquifers, shortages in food, and increasing pollution, the Earth has reached its limit. Carrying capacity is defined as the maximum population that can be supported by the available resources while still leaving resources for future generations. All living†¦show more content†¦Many countries have seen this rapid growth and see that it is quite detrimental. Most countries that are considered industrialized have curbed their population growths. Most of Europe has either a growth of 0% or it is in the negative numbers. America is also trying to curb i t population growth of 2%. Developing nations are where the population controls are needed. Even among the developing nations there is a divide. One group, exemplified by the Eastern Asian countries have made efforts to keep families small and in return see increased quality of life and falling fertility. The other group of developing nations, mostly comprised of the continent of Africa and the Indian subcontinent, have not addressed the issue of population control. It is these countries that will and in some cases are seeing the effects of overpopulation directly. The indirect effect of these countries, such as migration and social problems will become the problems of countries in Europe and the United States. The main determinant of the Earth’s carrying capacity can be packaged under the term of sustainable resources. Sustainable resources are resources need for life that are being replenished at the same rate or at a higher rate than it is being used. Resources such a freshwater, cropland and grain, air, habitable land, and forests are resources vital for life. Abigail ; Mary Warren In this essay I will explore the characters of both Mary and Abigail. These two seem to be within the same circle of friends however have to complete different personalities. However with one being a leader and the other a follower they match perfectly. She enters the court with intentions of speaking the truth of what happened, to tell the court that they all lied about seeing the devil. However eventually she stops coming across as strong minded and starts to show her real timid side who doesn’t like to be ‘left out’ or seen as an outcast. Whereas Abigail’s character is shown to be very strong minded and conniving she always strives for what she wants. In one of the scenes we see Abigail trying to seduce ex flame Proctor, during this it is clear to see that proctor is indeed finding this hard to keep away however he does manage to stick to No and not retaliating. In the court we see another side to her, where she is fighting for her life and doesn’t care who she takes down with her, this is shown by calling out to a big yellow bird as referring to it as Mary, and telling us that this bird wants to destroy her face. Abigail is portrayed to be a leader, she has her group of ‘friends’ who look up to her and rely on her. This is shown twice throughout the play, the first time is when the girls go to meet her at the beside if Betty and after hearing of witchcraft in town a couple of the girls immediately go to Abby asking for help/advise on what they should say. On the other hand, Mary Warren is portrayed as a follower. This shows that she is a weak minded person. She always needs someone there to push her or to defend her. This is shown at it strongest when at the last scene in the court, Mary leave the house with proctor with intentions of telling the courts the truth and to talk about how they all lied about dancing with spirits etc however it is then reversed when Abigail turns all the other irls against Mary and trying to make the judges believe that there is a big huge yellow bird that Mary has sent to deface her, after about 2-3 minutes of this the girls catch on and also start to join in with mimicking Mary and making the people of the court believe that Mary has sent her soul out to get them. At this point Mary is petrified and doesn’t know what it is that she is to do. In the end she ends up following Abigail and the girls and puts all the blame on proctor, blaming him for bringing her here, and saying that he too has made a pact with the devil.
