Overpopulation and the Carrying Capacity of the Earth...

Overpopulation and the Carrying Capacity of the Earth As humans start a new millennium, we have close to 4 billion more than we had at the beginning of the last millennium. In the next 50 years we are looking at adding another 3 billion people. Such a rapid increase has placed great strains on the Earth and leads us to ask – how many people can the earth support? The answer is rather obscure, however it seems like we are approaching our limit rather soon. With decreasing aquifers, shortages in food, and increasing pollution, the Earth has reached its limit. Carrying capacity is defined as the maximum population that can be supported by the available resources while still leaving resources for future generations. All living†¦show more content†¦Many countries have seen this rapid growth and see that it is quite detrimental. Most countries that are considered industrialized have curbed their population growths. Most of Europe has either a growth of 0% or it is in the negative numbers. America is also trying to curb i t population growth of 2%. Developing nations are where the population controls are needed. Even among the developing nations there is a divide. One group, exemplified by the Eastern Asian countries have made efforts to keep families small and in return see increased quality of life and falling fertility. The other group of developing nations, mostly comprised of the continent of Africa and the Indian subcontinent, have not addressed the issue of population control. It is these countries that will and in some cases are seeing the effects of overpopulation directly. The indirect effect of these countries, such as migration and social problems will become the problems of countries in Europe and the United States. The main determinant of the Earth’s carrying capacity can be packaged under the term of sustainable resources. Sustainable resources are resources need for life that are being replenished at the same rate or at a higher rate than it is being used. Resources such a freshwater, cropland and grain, air, habitable land, and forests are resources vital for life. The Crucible’s Abigal and Mary Warren Free Essays

Abigail ; Mary Warren In this essay I will explore the characters of both Mary and Abigail. These two seem to be within the same circle of friends however have to complete different personalities. However with one being a leader and the other a follower they match perfectly. We will write a custom essay sample on The Crucible’s Abigal and Mary Warren or any similar topic only for you Order Now In the last scenes towards the end of the play we start to see a stronger side towards Mary Warren. She enters the court with intentions of speaking the truth of what happened, to tell the court that they all lied about seeing the devil. However eventually she stops coming across as strong minded and starts to show her real timid side who doesn’t like to be ‘left out’ or seen as an outcast. Whereas Abigail’s character is shown to be very strong minded and conniving she always strives for what she wants. In one of the scenes we see Abigail trying to seduce ex flame Proctor, during this it is clear to see that proctor is indeed finding this hard to keep away however he does manage to stick to No and not retaliating. In the court we see another side to her, where she is fighting for her life and doesn’t care who she takes down with her, this is shown by calling out to a big yellow bird as referring to it as Mary, and telling us that this bird wants to destroy her face. Abigail is portrayed to be a leader, she has her group of ‘friends’ who look up to her and rely on her. This is shown twice throughout the play, the first time is when the girls go to meet her at the beside if Betty and after hearing of witchcraft in town a couple of the girls immediately go to Abby asking for help/advise on what they should say. On the other hand, Mary Warren is portrayed as a follower. This shows that she is a weak minded person. She always needs someone there to push her or to defend her. This is shown at it strongest when at the last scene in the court, Mary leave the house with proctor with intentions of telling the courts the truth and to talk about how they all lied about dancing with spirits etc however it is then reversed when Abigail turns all the other irls against Mary and trying to make the judges believe that there is a big huge yellow bird that Mary has sent to deface her, after about 2-3 minutes of this the girls catch on and also start to join in with mimicking Mary and making the people of the court believe that Mary has sent her soul out to get them. At this point Mary is petrified and doesn’t know what it is that she is to do. In the end she ends up following Abigail and the girls and puts all the blame on proctor, blaming him for bringing her here, and saying that he too has made a pact with the devil. Wipro Technologies Europe free essay sample

In my opinion, the critical personal characteristics that WIPRO is looking for will make it easier in order to find the Indian context, this is because the type of people the company is looking for are people who have sufficient grasp of the abstract, tolerance for ambiguity, and the patience to be able to grow with them. This will make it easier for them because they just need to find people with this characteristics or if not just train them in order to act like that. The company was also searching for people with Indian characteristics like the resilience, the ability to remain calm and the ability to deal with uncertainty. This means that they will have to prepare themselves in order something change. Also their sales person have to be really prepared technical, they have to be able to take first, second and third level calls by their own. This type of people can be trained easily because the company already knows what are the requirements that the employees should have. We will write a custom essay sample on Wipro Technologies Europe or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page The employees would be trained in order to be efficient to this requirements. Because the company want employees that behave like Indians, but they also want diversity in the workplace, the Europeans that are hired were send to India every three or four months in order to keep their training. Also the company used the Six Sigma processes for his sales, this is a set of strategies, techniques, and tools for process improvement. This will help improve the operations of the company, also it will improve customer loyalty and thus improve the profits of the organization. 2. Some of the key steps that WIPRO has taken to enhance its effectiveness are on the first hand, the company tried to build cultural understanding among the Indian staff who worked on projects with the European clients. WIPRO coached the employees as much as they could before they even travel for their first time. The company also build content based on feedback from those employees who had gone abroad without any training. It was more helpful for the employees to have been coached by the company before they leave to India. The Indian employees also were enrolled in language programs. It was helpful for them to understand different languages so that they could speak with the client without any trouble or misunderstanding. The company also encouraged his clients who lacked with experience to learn more about the Indian culture. 3. The way to motivate workers are some of these that are stated below, Training and personal development: is important as it stimulates the employee by making them learn new skills, and keeping them interested over a longer term. Pay and pay incentives: it is an important factor for the employee when deciding to accept a job offer at a company. Incentives are a great way to motivate staff to achieve goals, and it becomes a reward for great achievements. Social contact: People in open plan offices always performs better than people enclosed. Employee participation and responsibility: If a person does not feel valued they may quickly lose interest, and the performance levels will drop people like to feel that they are making a difference. Non pay incentives such as an extra day off, employee of the month schemes, etc. is a great way to motivate a team without costing the company much money. Promotion: which is really important, Companies that promotes from within have a much higher staff retention rate than companies who overlook their own staff and outsources candidates for supervisory/managerial position. Promotions also help build staff loyalty, and is a great way to motivate a team to do better. Job security: If the employees are worried about losing their jobs they will not perform to their very best. 4. The measures implemented at WIPRO in my opinion will be effective because the company is investing a lot in order to train their employees and take them to other countries in order to experience with other cultures and also to deal in different circumstances. By doing this, the company is trying to coach the employees to deal with uncertainty which will make them better workers and it will make the company rise. The measures implemented will only work if the employees are well motivated and also if the company coach them well. This will make the company rise and be well known by others if their coaching skills go well.

Literature has consistently shown that marital status of the parents has an influence on adolescents from minority ethnicities. It will have an elevated impact from the instability of the parents’ marital status. Forceful separation of parents has been linked to emotional difficulties. These reside in the behaviors of the aboriginal children, a minority ethnicity in Australia (Silburn, 2006, p. 13). In addition, concerns such as systemic expression of intergenerational effects are linked to separations. These have to do with the relocation of parents. Arguably, such observations point on the contribution of parents to the growth their adolescent children experience. However, it may be argued that adolescents are rather advanced to be affected by the separation of their parents (Silburn, 2006, p. 15). Besides, the stage is associated with a vast number of anti-parental concerns (Silburn, 2006, p. 1 4). It is significantly interesting to consider the challenges associated with children of ethnic minorities. This is in the hope of fathoming the driving reason behind the noted observations. Minority ethnicities suffer from numerous challenges that affect their immediate quest for survival. Apparently, being clustered as a minority ethnicity implies that the subsequent concerns of equity and survival needs to be safeguarded in the constitution (Silburn, 2006, p. 13). On such note, the parent may be perceived to be the central fortress of support associated with the children (Oliveira, et.al, 2007, p. 35). However, it would be difficult to narrow such response. It would also be difficult to narrow reactions. Especially in order to target the mental health of the adolescent child. Key questions that need to be considered include the manner upon which they express their frustrations. Besides, it may be argued that the mental health associated with the minority ethnics has a contribution from their marginalized status. Literature indicates that adolescent obesity is a function of parents’ marital instability. Studies show that mental health instability may be a critical contribution in support of this argument. On that note, it is critical to consider the elemental attributes that are promoted by instability in mental health. Various cases exhibiting excessive eating habits as a result of the piling psychological instability have been suggested across populations. An immediate response accorded to excessive eating behaviors remains the suggestion of obesity. In most cases, some adolescent children tend to seek solace on food as an avenue of addressing their psychological crisis (Oliveira, et.al, 2007, p. 33). It may, therefore, be argued that the emergence of obesity cases in adolescent from minority ethnicities revolves on instability in parental structure. However, developing such an assumption would have outweighed other perceptions that relate to the occurrence of obesity. There is a direct link between anxiety disorders and parents’ marital relationship. Various elements of such a disorder may be quantified on adolescents from minority ethnicities in order to prelude their contributions regarding the eventual instability in mental health (Oliveira et al., 2007, p. 37). Despite such a suggestion, the concept of linking disorders arising from separation anxiety to the mental health development is paramount (Oliveira, et.al, 2007, p. 39). Various proposals on the models to evaluate the expression of the considered anxiety disorders have been suggested. This includes the use of the family identification test (Oliveira, et.al, 2007, p. 36). Arguably, the approach remains one of the most viable. This is especially with regard to the disorder to the marital status of the parents. However, the observations on the distinctions between the children expressing the considered disorder and the healthy ones have been suggested to be minimal (Oliveira, et.al, 2007, p. 34). Although a suggestion on long-term effects remains among the most promising links towards the promotion of the behavior as an illustrator. It is an illustrator of considered effects on adolescents. Plus-sized women face shocking discrimination from hiring managers

Plus-sized women face shocking discrimination from hiring managers Have you ever left a job interview feeling like the interviewer was more focused on your appearance than your responses? Chances are you have - and new research shows that if you’re a woman, that gut feeling is quite rational. A new study from my company, Fairygodboss, asked 500 hiring professionals to look at images of 15 professional women of varied ages and races who had different hairstyles, body shapes, and attire. Respondents chose three adjectives (out of 11) to describe each woman and selected the women they’d be most likely to hire. The responses revealed that appearance does play a significant role in how hiring professionals perceive women. The dataIn our survey, we first asked hiring managers to pick the top qualities they look for when assessing job candidates. The most frequently selected qualities were professionalism (chosen by 68.28 percent of respondents), reliability (chosen by 60.69 percent), and leadership material (chosen by 46.21 percent). The top h iring choice was a young, Caucasian brunette. She was described as professional, confident, and friendly. While only one of these qualities overlaps with the three top-rated qualities among respondents, she was still the most likely to be hired. If a candidate’s appearance varied from this woman, she was less likely to be hired, regardless of whether or not she had the qualities hiring managers were looking for.Hiring managers were particularly harsh when judging the heaviest candidate. She was more likely than any other woman to be described as lazy (20 percent of respondents matched her with this adjective). Even though 44.8 percent said she was professional and 32.8 percent said she was reliable, just 15.2 percent said they would hire her over the other candidates. This placed her 14th of 15 for hireability. When shown an image of an older candidate, respondents ranked her sixth (out of 15) for professionalism, third for leadership ability, and first for reliability - yet j ust 29.2 percent said they would hire her over other candidates.Women of color also seemed to be facing a strong bias. Respondents rated most of the women of color as more reliable and having more leadership ability than the Caucasian woman, but remarkably enough, they were all less likely to be hired. This is how the data breaks down:The Caucasian brunette was rated:Professional – 75.4 percent of respondentsReliable – 19.6 percent of respondentsLeadership material – 27.8 percent of respondentsWould be hired – 60.0 percent of respondentsThe African-American woman was rated:Professional – 64.8 percent of respondentsReliable – 29.8 percent of respondentsLeadership material – 29.2 percent of respondentsWould be hired – 45.6 percent of respondentsThe Asian woman was rated:Professional – 57.6 percent of respondentsReliable – 37.0 percent of respondentsLeadership material – 27.6 percent of respondentsWould be hire d – 31.4 percent of respondentsThe Hispanic woman was rated:Professional – 42.2 percent of respondentsReliable – 19.6 percent of respondentsLeadership material – 33.2 percent of respondentsWould be hired – 26.6 percent of respondentsWhat this means for womenIt’s an unfortunate reality that you are still largely judged by how you look and dress. Hiring managers might perceive that you possess all of the qualities they’re looking for, but depending on your appearance, you still may not get the job. Since your age and race - and to some extent your weight - are out of your control, what can you do?In some situations, even the best interview responses might not overcome these biases. It is worth mentioning, however, that not all people share the same prejudices. Our data suggests that some hiring managers are less biased than others. For example, younger hiring professionals (between 25 and 34 years old) were more likely to hire the olde r candidate. Thirty percent said they’d consider the older woman, while just 15.4 percent of respondents over age 54 would. This means that older job seekers shouldn’t be afraid to apply for positions at up-and-coming companies that are largely led by young employees. Our research also shows that most women of color are more likely to be hired if their interviewer is of the same race. Both African-American and Asian respondents said they would hire the candidate of the same race. While you cannot choose the age or race of your interviewer, you can do research on companies to determine whether they prioritize diversity. Before interviewing, check review sites to see what current and former employees have to say about the organization in terms of inclusion. In the end, women are going to face unique and unfair obstacles during the job search. Hiring managers will look at them and make assumptions about who they are based on their appearance. But that doesn’t mean the re’s nothing you can do to prove you’re worth hiring.About the authorGeorgene Huang is obsessed with improving the workplace for women.
